Direction 2055: HEPMPO's 20-Year Vision for Regional Transportation

The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) describes HEPMPO’s vision for the regional transportation system for the next 20 years. The plan:

  • Identifies critical needs and challenges
  • Establishes a framework for decision-making for future transportation investments
  • Defines a prioritized project list based on anticipated financial constraints
  • Incorporates a proactive public participation process
  • Evaluates multimodal connectivity across the region.

The next update to the LRTP, Direction 2055, is due to be released in May 2027.

Public Outreach and Involvement

Community input is vital to the LRTP. Public outreach and involvement planning began in December 2025. Elements will include:

Technical Advisory Council (TAC) Meetings

Public Meetings

HEPMPO will conduct two public meetings for each county in the region. These meetings may be conducted virtually or in person.

Online Survey

An online survey will collect information about commuter patterns, traffic congestion and current and future transportation needs.

Intercept Survey

In accordance with Title VI requirements, an intercept survey will be executed in order to understand the transportation needs of underserved communities.

Outreach efforts will continue through the summer of 2026.
